Remember this project?

Well, I finally have reached the top of the second strip of the Rosette Insertion pattern on page 15. Now it’s time to tat down the other side.

In the second photo you can see the paperclip. Necessary to use for the lock join to the core thread. That’s because I chose to simply tat the “pattern” I came up with for the point in reverse. Easier on the brain than trying to figure out the way to tat it all back side or something!

Remember this project? I’ve reached the end of the strip that will sit at the neckline. The Tatting Study Group members brainstormed several options. I settled on this one:

Now to tat down the side returning to the beginning point, then to tat the second insertion, carefully take the machine lace off and finally sew my tatting on. Whew! Who knew what the scope of the project was? Certainly not me!

But I’d do it again!! I love having tatting on my outfits.

Surprise!

Whenever I tat a larger project, I end up with several smaller projects along the way. I’ve been tatting a geometric pattern in a variegated thread. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how consistent my stitches have been. The color change is occurring in pretty much the same point in the pattern as I work around the edge. You see, I so fail at knit and crochet because my tension is so erratic. A wise knitting teacher offered suggestions for how to develop a consistent physical motion. I’ve decided that unless I have an aural crutch of music running through my head, my body doesn’t repeat itself. But, with this project, I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

These are the little corner motifs of the pattern. As the edge is worked, these will be joined to and worked into the overall pattern. I rather like the shape of these corners. I’m thinking of tatting another set and turning these into earrings. Unfortunately, the colors do nothing for me for clothes/jewelry, so I’ll probably change my mind or use different colors.

A lovely pattern. I’m not sure the dull colors in Lizbeth Herbal Garden work well for it. I think the next pram created will be in colors better fitting a nursery. Now I’m off to finish other WIP.

Indecently, for those that catch how awkward the final section of the pattern looks, you’re correct, I didn’t follow the directions. For some reason I thought I could work on the last little bit while in the car. I had copied what I thought were the pertinent directions. Upon return to the computer, I discovered that I had NOT followed the pattern at all. With scissors, I corrected some and with a creative SSSR or two and a split chain, I think I’ve recovered. Sigh.

Day 9 of TIAS in Herbal Garden

Today is Day 9 of TIAS 2013. Here’s what I have.

I really like working with this thread. The colors are easy on my eyes. I like each one as its own color. And they are working well with the colors I have requests for. I think this could be my favorite for now. It will be replacing Carribean. I think.

I neglected to mention with day 1 post that I’m using Herbal Garden color of Lizbeth thread. That’s the one I named post on thread.I have several colors in mind for my solid color for this year’s creation, but I really can’t decide…..not until I see what comes for the next few sections!
