BWV

That stands for Bach-Werke-Verseichnis

The above link is to Wikipedia. Using the BWV numbers lessens the confusion when talking about Bach pieces. He only wrote over 1000 compositions and there are only 12 different tones in the scale. He wrote quite a few Tocatta-like pieces in D minor by the way. If I’m feeling impish, I’ll agree to play and start in on one of the other less popular pieces. Only if the people goading me to play are especially irritating!

I’ve been less impish lately. Perhaps because of the Fest piece I’m working on. The artwork, including frame, must be no greater than 9” X 11” and if “3-dimensional” no greater than 7” X 7” at the base. So, use the green thread? Or the orange thread?

Afterglow and next......

I’m reveling in the good vibes from the last few weeks. It’s been busy, but the activities have all been wonderful. Or maybe my attitude has just been more positive. Anyway, it’s been fun, if a bit tiring. It’s been interesting with learning opportunities, if a bit nerve wracking. It’s been relaxing, if a bit boring at moments. Could be I’ve figured out what I want to do when I grow up!

What’s next? A Sunday substitute request, creating the Motif for the Art Raffle, preparing for a major change in the family schedule….nuttin’ much…..All that after a vigorous walk by the Bay.

Home again, Home again

Trips are always a disruption. Pleasant, but you get out of your routine. Thus, I have little to share here. Of course, that’s also because I’m in the midst of tatting up my Bach Fest piece which I cannot share until after the Show opens. Same with preparing for Tat Days. So, I’ll turn to music to share.
Last week was a traumatic week. The fire on Tuesday of Holy Week at Notre Dame, Holy Week, and well Holy Week! (My daughter was born on Tuesday of Holy Week. I always am a bit more alert that day!) The good news:

The Grand Orgue is OK as are a fair number of other priceless items that enjoyed being in Notre Dame. There will need to be repairs for years and the organ may never sound the same. The building matters in an organ installation. And water and electricity don’t mix. There’s a lot to assess for repairs and repairs to do! I’ll be looking for ways to help out from this little slice of Paradise. If you have ideas, let me know!

Pink Sonata

I needed a small project to work on during the wait times on our trip. I decided to re-tat Sonata in pink. Here are the first two inner motifs. I’ll be tatting the other two in a lighter pink. Just ‘cause……

Whew!

That’s all I can say…..

Like all the organists I know, I was absolutely horrified by the news from Paris yesterday. I’ve had the privilege of hearing the organ several times. Never managed an invitation to the loft, but I’ll admit I was just a tad overwhelmed just being in Notre Dame. To lose so much to fire, I was just plain gripped by the news! And now, we learn the Grand Orgue is not destroyed. Water can do a huge amount of damage, but fire can destroy far faster. Whew!

I’ll leave you with a picture of something else I could be easily overwhelmed by:

The insertion to go on the Linen top is finished and currently on the blocking towel. For scale, that towel is a standard bath towel folded in half length-wise. Now to carefully remove the braids tack these on. I’d like to wear it for Tat Days. We’ll see if I get it all done!

Friends help!

I have a local group of tatters who get together each Tuesday afternoon. We support each other and teach each other. I have learned so much from them! This week, we discussed what to use for thread color and beads to finish out the Monster Doily (Wiosna 2017).

Here what I decided:

I want to use some green, but the green thread was too, well, GREEN.

I have more Sea Foam beads, so they went into the YES pile. I pulled out other beads I used in the previous rounds along with some “mauvey” beads.
I am intending the final border to be in black thread with clear sparkly beads.
Sea Foam beads are in center, mauve on top, matter finish on bottom

That left thread color for a couple of rounds in between. I pulled out my size 80 thread box and began rummaging. Nothing looked intriguing to anyone. More vintage thread surfaced from someone else’s stash and this ball stood out:

More discussion and bead color ideas were floated. I now have 4 colors in the maybe pile. I think I’ll do some test tats and see what I like…….

Wiosna 2017 through Round 10

I finished another Round! It’s taken me awhile…..
Renulek's Wiosna 2017 through Round 10

Two years……

But, I had to put it aside while other projects were completed. Now, I have the puzzle of what to do for the final rounds.

Oh, and here’s the link to Renulek’s blog and her Etsy store. The pattern is available through her Etsy store or directly from her. I like the look of Wiosna 2019, but I think it may take a while for me to get to it.

Hair bun holder is finished!

It is done! Ready to wear on our trip. Pictures when I return.

Now on to finishing other projects. Maybe I’ll get back to the Monster Doily. Maybe I’ll complete an earring or two. Oh! And there’s the Bach Fest Piece to design and tat.

So much to tat! So little time!!!

Insertion strip turned

Remember this project?

Well, I finally have reached the top of the second strip of the Rosette Insertion pattern on page 15. Now it’s time to tat down the other side.

In the second photo you can see the paperclip. Necessary to use for the lock join to the core thread. That’s because I chose to simply tat the “pattern” I came up with for the point in reverse. Easier on the brain than trying to figure out the way to tat it all back side or something!
