Rain!

We have had rain. Not a huge amount by some standards, but welcome. The plants look much healthier now. Of course, the oxalis is taking off big time. I know I should be attacking it while the ground is moist, but there is so much else to do!

Workbasket pattern in pastel and white

I wanted to play with variegated thread in hopes that it would make the solid thread areas pop. I don’t think it worked for this pattern. I do like how the faux center turned out where the corners meet. I would like to stick with variegated as there are so many music compositions that use theme and variation structure. If I can learn what works best for tatting design structure to vary a basic motif, perhaps that will be a good method to represent music compositions that take a simple melody and expand it with variations. Just a thought.

Spring is here!

The plum tree is in bloom. The birds are starting to stake out nesting places. And the weeds are back. If you’ve followed this blog over the years, you know about our garden and weeds. post on weeding I didn’t do a real thorough job of weeding while the ground was soft from the rain. Now, the weather is turning warm and dry. So, I’ll just have to cope later. I really dislike using weed killer in the ground around the fruit trees. There’s just something off about that.

I hit another snag in the angel pattern. I struggle so with scale and making the motifs fit a shape I’ve determined. I hope to conquer this over the next few days; Then, on to tat a test in smaller thread to see how big it really will be. I may have to simplify the pattern to get it down to a manageable size.

I think I will take a walk around the yard to smell the roses first……

Of Spring and bunnies

My thoughts are on spring today. Last night a storm blew in and gave us some rain. We needed it! Unfortunately, the timing may not be great for the fruit trees. I hope the bees had a chance and the fruit has set. We’ll see in a few months.

Ruth's Tatted Easter Bunny

Currently, the non-fruiting plum outside my window is in bloom. The blossoms look so bright! And the pink matches the thread I used to try out Ruth’s Tatted Easter Bunny.

I had great fun and plan to do a chocolate version with the Fudge thread from Handy Hands. Now to get out to the garden to weed now that the soil is moistened up!

The Mapping of Love and Death by Jacqueline Winspear

It’s the latest in her Maisie Dobbs series. Her detective is an engaging character. If you like mysteries, English period dramas, and strong female characters, I recommend it. I’ve another 100 pages to go. So, you may not see much for tatting. Unless I decide to pick up an easy bookmark to work on and I can prop the book open.
